“Phew…”

When Xu Xinghe woke up again, he realized that everything around him had changed. Gone was the modern decoration before his eyes. Instead, he saw a wooden ceiling.

Having gone through two consecutive small worlds with modern settings, the sudden shift to such a rustic one caught Xu Xinghe a little off guard.

The emotions from the previous small world gradually faded under the system’s detachment. However, all other memories remained.

Lying on the bed, Xu Xinghe carefully reviewed the plot.

The world he was currently in was an ancient continent with a long history. There were more than a dozen kingdoms on the continent, large and small. Among them, the two largest were Serorida and Alterg.

This continent was cursed: every two thousand years, the seal on the Otherworld Demons would weaken. Their reappearance would bring disaster to the entire continent, such as monsters growing stronger and the environment deteriorating.

But whenever that happened, a Saintess and a Hero would awaken on the continent. Only by joining forces to seal the Otherworld Demons could they restore peace to the land.

In the original plot, the male lead was Grady, the eldest prince of Alterg and also the Hero who saved the continent in the story.

The Saintess was the female lead in the plot. She was a commoner woman named Karina, whom the eldest prince rescued during a secret visit.

Using a Holy Sword for banishing demons, combined with the Saintess’s awakened holy power, the prince sealed the Otherworld Demons. Their deed was celebrated as a legend, and they lived happily ever after.

Of course, the story was far from that simple.

Prince Grady and Saintess Karina did not truly love each other, and their seal was far from reliable. The Otherworld Demons would soon return, and when they did, the entire continent would be completely destroyed by them.

That was because their powers were stolen from the true Hero and Saintess! Long ago, the two had conspired to kill the real Hero and Saintess.

But in the original plot, the true Hero and Saintess were portrayed as villains, making the false Hero and false Saintess appear as “allies of justice.”

Xu Xinghe sighed and climbed out of bed. His name was no longer Xu Xinghe—or rather it was more appropriate to call him Lant Rezigon.

He was a knight of the Serorida Kingdom and also the tragic villaneous Hero who was killed in the original plot.

His destined person in this small world was Freya Ramirez, the least favored princess of the Kingdom of Serorida and the true Saintess whose holy power had been cruelly stripped away.

In the original plot, the original owner possessed extraordinary martial skills, quickly rose to become a personal guard knight to the King of Serorida, and gained recognition from the Holy Sword during an expedition.

Unexpectedly, four years later, the Otherworld Demons awakened early, and their source pointed directly at the Serorida Kingdom.

The original owner fought fiercely against the monsters until he collapsed from exhaustion, but the kingdom still fell. The neighboring kingdom of Alterg then arrived with a ‘late’ rescue. The original owner was saved by troops sent by Prince Grady of Alterg.

But because his injuries were too severe, Grady developed ulterior motives. The original owner was imprisoned instead, and the Holy Sword was taken from him.

But the Holy Sword had bonded with its owner. Others could not even bring out a tenth of its power.

That was why the seal would soon loosen again and the Otherworld Demons would re-emerge. Because without the true Saintess and Hero, one could not truly wield that power.

Freya Ramirez was born to a lowly palace maid, so the King of Serorida did not favor her. In fact, he detested her.

At the age of sixteen, she was married off to the neighboring prince Grady as a concubine under the guise of a political marriage.

Freya was not physically strong. Her congenital deficiency made her frail and sickly since childhood. Grady therefore disliked her always weak demeanor, as if she might die at any moment, though he still treated her with care on the surface.

But losing her heart to him did not bring her a good ending. Shortly after during a secret visit, Grady met a commoner woman named Karina and fell in love instantly.

Under Karina’s sweet words and manipulations, Grady became convinced that Freya’s frail body could not support the full use of her holy power. So he resorted to a forbidden technique, then taking advantage of moments when Freya was not prepared, he transferred the holy power within her to Karina.

And so Freya suffered severe damage. She gave up all hope in Grady, and her heart gradually darkened. But by then, she was already at the end of her strength. In the end, she could not win and died with deep regret.

After reviewing the plot, Lant could not help but let out a small sigh.

This time, not only did he have to save his sweetheart, but he also had to save the world. Otherwise, there would be no peaceful life for him!

Fortunately, the current timeline was still early. He had not yet become a personal guard knight to the king. He was merely a captain in the Royal Knights. Freya was only fourteen years old and had not yet reached marriageable age.

Getting out of bed and changing into outdoor clothes, Lant picked up the sword resting on the nearby stand and decided to first familiarize himself with the swordsmanship.

He would not foolishly follow the original plot by making a high-profile move to become the king’s personal guard knight. That man did not deserve it!

He had to find a way to become Freya’s personal guard knight instead and protect Freya himself.
