Ye Xue caught them, her fingertips dripping blood onto the sword’s surface, which was instantly absorbed.
“Whirr—”
Ye Xue felt the swords hum in her hands, looking down in surprise as the three Evil-Slaying Swords pulsed like a heartbeat, merging into one sword.
Golden light surrounded Ye Xue as her skirt fluttered in the wind.
In the light, she raised her hand.
Male and female, unity of all laws.
Around her, the winds howled. The vicious ghosts, as if encountering their natural enemy, let out mournful cries, trying to retreat, but were forced into the formation by the blood net.
Ye Yangyun looked at the sword in surprise. Realizing what was happening, he was about to seize the Evil-Slaying Sword, but a flash of light pushed him back.
The golden light formed a formation, leaving behind rune-like symbols in its wake.
The sword pointed to the sky, summoning thunder, and the golden light intertwined with purple lightning, causing the formation on the ground to intensify.
Ye Xue exhausted all her magic power, delivering a mighty strike.
With a loud “boom,” the ground cracked open, forming a large pit.
Ye Yangyun staggered back a few steps, coughing heavily, blood seeping from his mouth.
The cloak and black attire were shattered, but the cyan robe beneath remained intact.
“If I were a true vengeful spirit, I would have been done for by now,” he said, wiping the blood from his hand. His face was deathly pale, lacking any color, but there was a malicious smile on his lips. “But, Ah Xue, I’m neither a ghost nor a human. Neither the Three Realms nor the Five Elements can control me, let alone the Exorcism Sword.”
“If I’m not evil, how can I be exorcised?”
“Damn it. The Soul Hook can’t even catch you, and the Exorcism Sword can’t do anything about you?!” Bai Liu exclaimed, nearly cursing in frustration.
Ye Xue had exhausted all her strength, breathing heavily as she leaned against Yu Qi’s chest, her body completely drained.
Ye Yangyun walked toward the magical barrier. With a swift strike of his hand, he knocked Bai Liu unconscious. Then, he reached out and effortlessly destroyed the blood net made of talismans.
Under the blood net, the few vengeful spirits had already been tortured by the golden light to the point of no longer resembling their former selves.
Ye Yangyun slowly bent down, placing his hand over them with a look of satisfaction. “Good children, you’ve worked hard along the way.”
He spoke these words, yet his actions were far from gentle.
His palm seemed to have a black hole, drawing all the power from the vengeful spirits into his own body.
Before long, black mist gathered around Ye Yangyun again, exuding the same sinister aura as before.
The vengeful spirits, however, were losing their color, collapsing to the ground, barely alive.
“Ah, so this is why you freed the Rongguo and Jinglie ghosts. You needed their power,” Bai Zi’ang finally understood his intentions.
With this reminder, Ye Xue also came to realize why the female ghost in blue she had encountered needed to possess others, and why the green-clad ghost was so weak and needed to attach itself to similar beings. It was because their yin energy had already been partially drained by him.
Thinking back to the time she had felt a gaze upon her at the haunted house in the eastern suburbs, it wasn’t a hallucination. Someone must have been watching her, and that place must have been his place for cultivating yin energy.
Ye Yangyun had already approached, surrounded by black mist.
Without any effort, he pushed Ye Xue aside and easily lifted Yu Qi, gazing down at the young man.
Xu Zhou attempted to rush over to help but was ensnared by the black mist, unable to move. He could only shout, “Shishu, Mr. Yu!”
Bai Zi’ang struggled to tear at the black mist, but it only grew thicker, making it impossible to dispel.
Ye Yangyun chuckled softly. “Don’t worry, Mr. Yu. My hands are swift, and you will die quickly. By then, your body will have a new master.”
Ye Yangyun’s hand had already reached Yu Qi’s chest, his nails lengthening into sharp, deadly claws.
The black mist followed, seeping into Yu Qi’s chest.
Ye Xue barely managed to support herself with her hands, attempting to rise, but collapsed helplessly back to the ground.
The black mist around her seemed to fear her, or perhaps it feared her blood, never daring to approach.
“Yu Qi!” Ye Xue cried out.
Her voice sounded so close, yet it felt as though it was distant, as though separated by an impossible space.
Scenes from the past replayed before her eyes.
Her parents’ company in childhood, the loneliness she felt as she grew older, and later, when the golden light broke through and she was saved by that girl.
Yu Qi thought, that perhaps this was the final flicker of light before death, otherwise, why would he be remembering so many things from the past?
Ye Yangyun’s hand was covered in blood, but it seemed like he remembered something. He spoke to Yu Qi, “By the way, Mr. Yu, do you know how I found out you were born with a Dao physique?”
He gave a wicked smile. “Because the Exorcism Sword resonates with your artifact, and that special aura summoned me. Only those with immortal bones can respond to the Exorcism Sword. Don’t you think this means that even heaven doesn’t want you to live? Either you die, surrounded by countless ghosts, all alone, or I take your soul, and your body won’t belong to you.”
“Don’t worry, though, you won’t suffer anymore—ah!”
Ye Yangyun’s hand froze, and he turned in shock. “What? How could this happen?!”
A slender figure entered the scene. “I received a call saying something happened at the Daoist temple, so I rushed back… Hm, who is this?”
“Su Xinghe?” Xu Zhou exclaimed in surprise.
Ye Yangyun appeared to witness an unbelievable fact, his voice trembling with shock. “How could you pass through my barrier so easily…”
He felt his limbs no longer responding to his commands.
Ye Xue looked up in a daze, staring at the figure.
She remembered what Su Xinghe had jokingly said before, “You and I have a master-disciple fate.”
After the zombie disaster, Ye Yangyun had reached his limit and reincarnated.
Considering the time, Su Xinghe was indeed about the same age as him.
Ye Yangyun’s body and soul were in disarray, nearly bursting out of his shell. “No, it’s impossible!”
No wonder Ruan Xinghua had once said that Ye Yangyun looked familiar to her. It wasn’t that he resembled Su Xinghe, but rather, he shared a similar aura with Su Xinghe, which made her feel as though she had seen him before.
Ye Yangyun’s hand fell, and his soul started to lose control.
The original owner of the body had great merit and had exhausted his life by subduing the zombies, entering the cycle of reincarnation early.
Thus, when the true master of the body arrived, it automatically expelled all other souls.
Blacklight scattered in all directions. Ye Xue noticed a black spot in the area where his heart was.
She shakily reached for her sword.
Su Xinghe saw this and, though unaware of the full situation, still moved to retrieve the sword for her.
Ye Xue glanced at him, took the sword, and used it to support herself as she stood.
“The Exorcism Sword, once drawn, purges evil souls. Ah Xue, you are naturally suited to cultivate immortal bones.” Ye Xue remembered the night before they left for Hai City when Ye Yangyun gave her the Exorcism Sword. “The sword is alive. In the hands of good people, it’s a spiritual sword; in the hands of the wicked, it becomes an evil sword.”
“Go, go to Hai City to cultivate. The master is old and only wants to enjoy his later years in Fengyang Village.”
Ye Xue still remembered the warmth in his eyes at that moment.
But now, she couldn’t tell which words were true and which were false.
Perhaps all of them were lies.
Perhaps trapped in the body, unable to move, Ye Yangyun remained silent, watching as she raised the sword and thrust it into his own body.
With a crack, the sound of something breaking echoed, and Ye Yangyun collapsed to the ground as if struck.
Marks resembling cracks in ceramic appeared on his face. His eyes stared quietly at her, then suddenly turned to ashes, dissipating with the wind.
All that remained on the ground was a translucent black orb.
After the spirit died, it turned to ash and vanished forever from the world.
“This orb…”
Xu Zhou helped the White Master over. Just as the Master was about to pick it up, a burst of black mist surrounded the orb, sending him flying back.
“Hiss—” Bai Zi’ang stared at his hand, which had been burned.
Ye Xue silently extended her hand, and Bai Zi’ang warned, “Be careful! It will burn you!”
“What?” Just as he spoke, Ye Xue’s hand touched the orb, but nothing happened.
The surrounding black mist was instantly purified.
Yu Qi’s chest still bled, though it wasn’t a fatal wound, just significant blood loss.
Ye Xue gripped the orb, her face pale, exhausted from the ordeal.
Yu Qi looked at her and then hugged her tightly.
Ye Xue’s face rested on Yu Qi’s shoulder, and she wrapped her arms around him in return.
Xu Zhou suddenly remembered what Su Xinghe had said earlier and asked, “Daoist Xinghe, you just mentioned someone called you? Who was it?”
“It was me!” A small, sobbing voice emerged from a cotton-like figure, tears almost soaking its cotton material.
Qin Haoran held it and walked over with a few other Daoists.
Qin Haoran explained, “Just now, in the side hall, it insisted that I contact Su Xinghe.”
Originally, it was thought to be a desperate and hasty move from the cotton doll, but it turned out to be the instinctive response unique to living beings.
The cotton doll urged, “Hurry, hug me, and let me kiss Ye Xue!”
Qin Haoran: “…”
He whispered, “Should we not disturb them at this moment?”
The cotton doll huffed.
Bai Zi’ang, slow to react, glanced at Xu Zhou and the others standing nearby, then looked at Ye Xue and Yu Qi, who were practically inseparable, and in shock, said, “Wait, Junior Sister, Mr. Yu, you two are together?”
The others looked at him and simultaneously said, “You just figured that out?”
After everything was settled, Xuan Zhen Temple reported the matter to the Dao Association.
Fortunately, after the theft of the female sword last time, the Rong Ghost Well had strengthened its array, so the evil spirits that were suppressed didn’t escape as they had before.
Bai Liu sent the remaining evil spirits back to the Rong Ghost Well, and everything seemed to stabilize.
After Yu Ming’s injuries healed, Ye Xue and Yu Huarong conducted another paternity test. This time, there was no obstruction, and the results came back smoothly.
The test results showed a 99.9999% similarity, confirming their biological father-daughter relationship.
Though they had not regained their memories, they were both delighted by the truth.
Months later, Ye Xue came out of the exam hall, and Yu Qi was already waiting for her at the school gate.
The two of them embarked on their journey to Fengyang Village together.
The once bumpy and dilapidated roads had been repaired, and nearby, there was even a tourist spot where visitors could come to see the ancient tower.
In just half a year, everything around them seemed to have changed drastically.
Ye Xue stood at the village entrance, quietly gazing at the newly rejuvenated, vibrant old place, and walked in with Yu Qi.
“Hehe, come catch me!”
The children were playing and laughing, running toward them.
One little girl accidentally bumped into Ye Xue, “Ah—”
Ye Xue reached out and caught her, saying, “Be careful.”
The little girl turned around, revealing a cute face. She seemed to recognize Ye Xue and happily called out, “Sister Ye!”
It was the little girl who had been scared by the firecracker ghost before, Deng Zhuoying, the niece of Bao Wenxuan.
Deng Zhuoying hugged Ye Xue tightly and said dependently, “Sister Ye, why are you back? Are you here for the holiday? By the way, why didn’t Grandpa Ye come back with you?”
Ye Xue paused for a moment, then smiled, “He went to a very far place, and he probably won’t be coming back.”
Such a statement was too complex for a child, and Deng Zhuoying nodded as if she didn’t fully understand.
Ye Xue let go of her and said, “Go now, your friends are waiting for you.”
Deng Zhuoying quickly ran to join her playmates.
Not far away, their voices could still be heard playing a game, “Malankaihua twenty-one, twenty-five six, twenty-five seven, twenty-eight twenty-nine thirty-one…”
Amidst the background noise of the children, the two of them arrived at the place they had once lived.
Ye Xue took out the key and opened the door.
Yu Qi didn’t enter and waited outside.
Ye Xue slowly walked into the house, looking at the furnishings.
Since no one had lived there for a long time, the house was covered in dust.
She wiped the altar table clean and placed a black bead on top.
After a while, Ye Xue stepped out of the house, closed the door, and locked it.
A heavy iron lock hung at the door, sealing everything behind the house off from the outside.
Yu Qi extended his hand to her.
Ye Xue smiled and took his hand.
The two of them walked toward the village exit. Just as they were about to leave the village, they suddenly heard hurried footsteps from behind.
Someone called out, “Sister Ye!”
Ye Xue turned around.
Deng Zhuoying, with her clear eyes, looked at her, “Sister Ye, when will I see you again?”
Ye Xue was startled for a moment, then smiled, “Study hard and come find me in Haicheng in the future.”
Deng Zhuoying nodded seriously and said, “Okay, I’ll study hard and become as great as Sister Ye!”
Ye Xue smiled, her eyes curving.
She waved goodbye to the children and left Fengyang.
Sunlight poured down.
Hand in hand, the two walked forward.
They were stepping into a brand-new life.
Author’s Note:
The end~
Wow, there were a lot of twists here at the end. Author really made us doubt Su Xinghe. Somehow it felt a little short and sudden, but that might just be due to me binging it lol.
