TFSRITA Chapter 94

Ji Yecheng stood tall and proud, full of confidence. He even wished that Song Yu was around, so he could boast about it!

~~

Her bottom hurt.

Yan Qing lay on the bed, face, and eyes red, these days she’d been falling asleep the moment her head hit the pillow. Today, though, she had lingered a little longer in bed before finally falling asleep, and the heat from her face had faded, leaving only a light pink blush.

As she drifted off to sleep, she couldn’t help but think, It’s all that lunatic’s fault. Ridiculous!

Ji Yecheng had been watching her from outside, waiting for her to fall asleep. Once he thought she was out, he eagerly came into the room, sitting by her bed and staring at her.

Sometimes, he thought, Maybe this isn’t so bad. At least she listens to me.

But then again, he also felt something was off. A person like this… What difference was there between her and a piece of wood?

Yan Qing was sleeping peacefully, her delicate face tinged with a rosy hue, looking utterly adorable. Recently, she’d been eating and sleeping well and even gained a little weight.

Ji Yecheng, feeling a pang in his chest, reached out and gently poked her cheek, which was as smooth as an egg.

His lips pressed together as he pondered how to get her to snap out of it.

Suddenly, it seemed like Ji Yecheng had an idea. He poked her again, then stood up and left.

Jiang Wende watched him, confused. Normally at this hour, the Emperor would be with the Empress for her afternoon rest, wouldn’t he?

But today, Ji Yecheng was walking briskly back to the Taiji Hall’s study.

Inside, only Fu Rong was quietly working. When he saw Ji Yecheng enter, his eyes brightened, and he asked, “Your Majesty, are you here to review memorials?”

Since the Empress forcibly left the palace last time, the Emperor had been neglecting state affairs, following the Empress around all day. If he didn’t still attend court every day and leave the memorials to Fu Rong, the Empress would definitely have been attacked by the officials again.

Many memorials criticized the Empress, but Ji Yecheng always set them aside and ignored them.

That was the Emperor’s command.

But aside from that, even the smaller memorials were a headache. So when Ji Yecheng, who hadn’t been in the study for a long time, finally showed up, Fu Rong immediately felt relieved and didn’t show any fear of his temper, unlike most people when facing their superiors.

Ji Yecheng gave him a disdainful glance and said, “I’m here to take the memorials.”

Fu Rong immediately responded, “Over here, Your Majesty! I’ve sorted everything for you.”

Ji Yecheng said, “Bring them all over.”

Fu Rong was taken aback, but his excitement grew. “Okay, okay!”

He quickly packed up the memorials and moved them from the Taiji Hall study to Yan Qing’s sleeping quarters.

By the time they were settled, Yan Qing was still fast asleep. The palace was quiet, and Fu Rong, knowing better than to intrude, stayed outside in a side hall, sipping tea leisurely. He hadn’t felt this relaxed in a long time and hoped that once the Empress woke up, she’d look at the memorials and resolve them.

After all, he had put so much effort into this, and yet Ji Yecheng didn’t even give him a raise.

And since he had no family—no wife, no children—he had nothing else to wish for.

Ji Yecheng had ordered the eunuchs to be extremely careful. After everything was settled, Yan Qing was still deeply asleep.

As evening came, feeling thirsty, Yan Qing finally woke up, her eyes blurry.

The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Ji Yecheng’s face right in front of her. Without hesitation, she slapped him.

The slap rang out loudly.

Yan Qing snapped awake and immediately backed away.

Ji Yecheng’s face went numb from the impact. He wiped his face, trying to suppress his anger, and gritted his teeth, “Get up.”

Yan Qing looked at him, her large eyes unblinking.

Ji Yecheng could easily understand her meaning, and his anger rose. We’re already married, we’ve seen each other like this before, and yet she’s still so defensive?

But he simply obeyed and walked out.

Once the room was empty, Yan Qing slowly got up.

As she dressed, she noticed a new desk and a pile of memorials in the room. Uninterested, she walked right past them, not sparing them a second glance.

Did she want to look at them?

Not right now, she thought. After all, it was these memorials that had led her to casually sentence Jia Heng to the Northern Wilderness, only for him to not be swayed by Song Yu as she had expected, and instead uncover Song Yu’s rebellion.

Yan Qing instinctively believed that Song Yu’s injury was caused by Jia Heng’s hand—more precisely, by Ji Yecheng.

But that made sense. Ji Yecheng was the Emperor, and if someone wanted to take his throne, he had every right to eliminate the threat.

So Yan Qing didn’t blame him, but she couldn’t bring herself to be overly warm toward him either. In the story, Song Yu doesn’t have a second chance to be saved by Yan Qing.

And as for the memorials, Yan Qing had lost interest for now.

But Ji Yecheng didn’t know this. When he saw her come out, he assumed she hadn’t noticed the memorials, and was about to ask her about it. But just then, her round eyes suddenly sharpened, her hand like a claw, and she swiped it across his face. The sting was immediate and fierce.

Ji Yecheng froze for a moment, stunned by the pain.

Yan Qing didn’t continue. Instead, she poured herself some tea and washed her hands.

“What’s your problem!” Ji Yecheng growled, clutching his face, not daring to touch it.

Jiang Wende, momentarily stunned, recovered and quickly pulled out some ointment to treat him. “Your Majesty, please bear with it…”

Ji Yecheng ignored him, his eyes fixed on Yan Qing.

Yan Qing, her gaze lowered as she dried her hands, completely ignoring him.

Ji Yecheng, staring at her, suddenly remembered what had happened before bed. He stopped being angry, gave her a meaningful glance, and turned to grab two memorials from his desk. He laid them out in front of Yan Qing, who was slowly drinking her tea and said softly, “Alright, I’m not angry with you. Take a look at these two; Fu Rong couldn’t handle them.”

She was too shy, it was just a small bite.

Ji Yecheng muttered to himself, suddenly feeling a strange itch in his teeth, wondering if he’d broken skin while biting.

But Yan Qing was thinking, Who cares if you’re angry or not?
