“Feng Guang, the Poison Fog Forest will have the World Boss respawn in five minutes. Are you coming?”
Players in the team could communicate over distances, and as soon as Feng Guang heard Chao Lu’s noisy voice, she frowned. “How many times have I told you? Don’t call me by my real name in the game.”
“Okay, okay, then Wan Yang, are you coming?”
“Yeah, just wait for me to use my Shadow Step.”
The so-called Shadow Step was a skill essential for every player. As long as you thought about the skill’s name, raising your hand would conjure a glowing time-space portal in front of you. When you stepped into the portal and concentrated on your destination, you would arrive there in the blink of an eye.
The Poison Fog Forest was already crowded with players; nearly everyone on the server was gathered here in anticipation of the upcoming World Boss. The so-called World Boss was a humanoid monster that respawned once a month. It was characterized as a notorious pirate, who naturally possessed many treasures. Its human-like design even gave it interests and hobbies, so defeating the World Boss could yield treasure chests that might contain top-tier equipment or rare items, as well as some useless trinkets, including items like palace blueprints.
“Wan Yang, are you there yet?”
“I’m in a tree.”
The girl in blue looked up and saw a red figure in the tree above her. She spun around and leaped up to land beside Feng Guang. “Why are you just standing here?”
“There are so many people below; I didn’t want to squeeze in.” The game’s realism made it feel as though you could even smell the sweat.
Chao Lu was a very cute girl. She twirled a strand of hair in front of her chest and rolled her eyes at Feng Guang. “You’re such a drama queen, miss.”
“If nothing is going on, I’ll just leave.”
“Hey, wait!” Chao Lu grabbed her hand, looking pitiful. “If you leave, I won’t have anyone to heal me. I’ll die before I can even get close to the treasure chest!”
“Do I look like someone who can just heal anyone at will?”
“Pretty please, big sister! Once they finish fighting, I’ll rush in to reap the benefits. With your top-tier gear, I definitely won’t die!”
Feng Guang gave her a sideways glance. “With your whip, how many kills do you think you can get?”
“Don’t underestimate me! I especially bought a strength potion from the healer at a high price today. Just wait for my big burst of power!”
“Fine, but if you die, don’t blame me.”
Chao Lu’s face lit up with joy. “Of course! Thank you, Wan Yang! You’re beautiful and sweet-hearted—truly a goddess!”
In “Jianghu,” everyone knew Wan Yang, not because of her gaming skills, but because she was rich. While others spent time leveling up and acquiring equipment, she just spent money—lots of it. Whenever she felt like it, she would buy, buy, buy! She not only purchased every outfit available in the store but also bought any rare treasures that caught her eye, no matter how high the asking price. Wan Yang ranked first on the wealth leaderboard, earning her the nickname “Goddess.”
Feng Guang felt indifferent toward this title; she was already a rich girl and had been hearing the word “goddess” since elementary school.
Finally, the time arrived. A plump man slowly emerged from the depths of the forest—he was the notorious pirate. He ambled about, completely unaware that he was about to be attacked by everyone in the server.
With the sound of a bird’s call, war broke out. All the players drew their weapons and rushed forward, unleashing a flurry of skills on the pirate. The pirate pulled out a hammer and swung it, knocking down a large number of players. Those who were in a party with a healer received healing, while those who weren’t used potions to regain health and got back up to continue fighting. Of course, some players, like Feng Guang and her friends, chose to stay on the outskirts, waiting for the right moment to charge in.
The World Boss had a lot of health, requiring many players to work together to defeat it. About five minutes later, the pirate’s health bar was depleted, and he let out a cry of despair before collapsing. A treasure chest fell to the ground, and apart from those in the party, all other players were marked as hostile.
Seeing the moment had arrived, Chao Lu pulled out her whip and leaped down. “Wan Yang, heal me!”
As she spoke, she had already dived into the crowd of hostile players, unleashing her powerful skills. Following Feng Guang’s lead, she was decked out in impressive gear, and her whip quickly knocked several low-health players to the ground.
From her perch in the tree, Feng Guang took out a white jade flute and raised it to her lips, playing a simple tune. The sound waves reached Chao Lu, instantly restoring her recently depleted health. As a long-range healer, there was no need for her to rush forward.
Those with discerning eyes could see that the flute in Feng Guang’s hands, with its translucent white jade body and a red tassel at the end, was made from rare materials: crystal snow orchid jade and red fire silk. These were treasures dropped by previous World Bosses. This didn’t mean she had snatched them from a chest; she had spent a significant amount of money to buy them. The flute she held was currently the best healing weapon in the entire server, allowing her to perform even the simplest healing skills better than those healers who struggled to recover health.
