FSC [QT] Chapter 18.3

Arc 1: Silly Girl (57)

The next day after returning home, Xu Baozhu left home on the pretext of going to the county seat to discuss new business with the shopkeeper of Juxiangzhai. After entering the city, she took some cover-up to conceal her face and found a scholar who specialized in writing letters to people.

She wrote a note about Jiang Wu who was destined to die young. Then one day, when no one was around, she placed the note behind the door of Diao’s house. Because she was afraid that the note would be blown away by the wind, she even put a big stone on top of it.

“No matter what, I can’t harm an innocent person.”

Xu Baozhu looked at it from a distance and whispered.

“Besides, Jiang Wu shouldn’t have married in her situation. Her mind is like that of a child. Anyone who marries her is raping a child.”

As if to comfort herself, Xu Baozhu murmured to herself: “I am just doing what I should do. If the Diao family insists on marrying Jiang Wu, I will have a clear conscience. If the Diao family chooses to cancel their marriage to the Jiang family because of my letter and thus cancels two marriages in succession, Jiang Wu may not marry again. In her situation, it would be better to be a pampered girl at home. Her father doted on her so much, how could she be wronged?”

Xu Baozhu knew that Jiang Wu would not live for more than a few years, but she did not know when Lin Pingchun’s father-in-law Jiang Baozong died in history.

Recalling the physical condition of Jiang Baozong she saw that day, it looked like he could live for decades. No man could love his daughter more than his biological father. Thinking about it, it would be a happy thing for Jiang Wu to remain unmarried until her death.

Because she was afraid of being seen, Xu Baozhu did not dare to stay where she was for too long. Because the Diao family had not come out for a long time, she could only leave with a heavy heart.

“Whose people put such a big stone at the door of our house?”

Diao Jindong was about to go out. He opened the door and saw the big stone with letter paper at the door. He muttered, picked up the big stone with one hand, and put it in the corner to prevent anyone from tripping over the stone.

“Why is there another letter?”

After placing the stone, he saw the letter under the stone.

“Jiang…ming…early…”

Diao Jindong almost scratched his scalp, but he could not read the contents of the letter clearly.

Diao Jindong patted his brain which never worked well in studies. His father was right. If he could spend all his body-growing ability on growing a brain, he would be half as smart as his cousin now.

“Forget it, let Cousin or Dad take a look at it later when they get home.”

Diao Jindong felt a headache from looking at it, so he folded the paper several times and stuffed it into his pocket.

Because of his not-very shrewd mind, Diao Jindong successfully forgot about this matter after returning home from playing around.

During this period, Xu Baozhu had been inquiring about the Diao family, but since she sent the letter, she had not heard any news.

Xu Baozhu tossed and turned, suspecting that the letter did not reach the hands of the Diao family smoothly, and at the same time, feeling that the Diao family did not believe the content of the letter, or that the Diao family believed it but chose to turn a blind eye because of other motives.

Because Xu Baozhu was focused on this matter, she had no time to think of new money-making ideas, so the money in her hands was getting less and less.

Everything was calm, and soon, the day came for Jiang Wu and Huo Lindong to get married.

  1. Addy says:

Say what you want about her motives, but she was 100% correct in that marrying Jiang Wu is rape

    1. allison says:

    2. Jeremy says:

I agree that it is basically rape which is what keeps me from enjoying this first arc but she doesn’t really view it that way herself. She says it to herself to justify her actions but she is obsessed with the man who not only married this child in her previous life (and thus just as guilty of rape) but is famous for writing love poems about this mental child he had married. She condemns it as rape yet thinks the original rapist is the epitome of romantic lovers.

  2. Ms Potato says:

My goodness, when in Rome do as Romans do. Imo we really cannot put our modern day society thinking in the ancient society, specially of a country with belief system that we are not part of. We do not know, understand or have lived their lives or during these era. Even in modern day China with little news that trickle down from there, there still some little village where feudal thinking are still rampant, they dispise those with disabilities, deep in the mountains some are still kidnapping girls and making them into brod mares for the whole family, there’s even news of this, look it up. Sometime ago there’s this chinese vlogger who found this lady in his himetown, chained by her neck in a shabby house, he got curious you know a bloggers often do, and ask the family why they chained her up, she seemed normal, she’s coherent when answering his questions but when she’s asked what her name is, where she’s from and her family she could not answer or she would say she can’t remember, the family then just said she’s not in the right mind, but curious ly enough the vlogger noted that she still managed to birth 8 kids for the whole family. Vlogger later found out from surrounding neighbors that it was said that men on that family take turns assaulting her, from grandpa, uncle, her husband and older nephew, its really bad I know. Needless to say it went viral and even sparked a debate among Chinese Netizens, they even suspected that she resemble this girl that has been missing for quite sometime, they said she was kidnapped while walking home from school. My point is it’s easy to say she should not get married but little to we know that in their society and tradition, not getting married in this era for a young girl with disability may mean death or worse! One cannot simply label shit like this is rape without even understanding the situation or implications of that. What are you gonna transmigrate too and open a women shelter? By all means go and I will even applaud you if you can do that but can you really go against their culture and tradition, they were raised in Confucianism, to them marriage is an important thing, in their eyes its good that she married a competent man, her husband and their offspring will take care of her, we even dispise their thinking of filial peity, to some of us it abuse to them it’s respecting their parents and honoring their ancestors, their way of thinking is inherently different from modern people, we cannot just label stuff moronically and just leave it at that without thinking of consequences, think man.

    1. Psychotic Mind says:

Space out your words first. Also they are not stupid they have a bad pedo problem back then and even more so now.

So Please stop using crappy excuses. If they can figure out a way to “climb the latter’ do you truly think they are dumb enough to not know what they’re doing is wrong?

    2. Vytta says:

  3. Luna says:

Who wants to bet that Jiang Wu dying early in the OG!novel was the fault of the mother in evtl. conspiracy with the son? I mean they did that thing they conspired to do on the early chapters (marrying Jiang Wu for the family property). So if she dies a few years into the marriage of some or the other health issue, it won’t be too suspicious. And if he goes on to the father about never marrying again he will be able to inherit the property. “Reluctantly” accepting a concubine could also be a ploy to fool the father.

    1. Vytta says:

      Concordo plenamente
